HILTON SHARES RISE 26% FOLLOWING SALE
Post Wires
July 6, 2007 -- Shares of Hilton Hotels Corp. soared 26 percent yesterday, two days after the company agreed to be bought by The Blackstone Group for $20.1 billion in cash.
The deal was valued at $26 billion including debt.
Shares of other lodging companies also rose as analysts speculated about which ones might become the next buyout targets.
Hilton's shares were the most heavily traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Shares rose $9.34 to $45.39.
The proposed acquisition deal represents a 32 percent premium over Tuesday's closing price. It would instantly make Blackstone the world's largest hotel owner.
Celebrity socialite Paris Hilton and other descendants of her great grandfather Conrad Hilton - who started the hotel group in 1919 when he bought a small hotel in Cisco, Texas - won't likely see a windfall.
That's because the family has little stake left in the company and what's remaining is expected to ultimately go to charity.
"Very few Hiltons will benefit very much from this sale," said Jerry Oppenheimer, who profiled the Hilton family in his 2006 book "House of Hilton."
Hilton Co-Chairman Barron Hilton, Conrad's son and Paris' grandfather, is the only member of the Hilton clan that has a sizable role at the company. He's expected to give the roughly $1 billion that he stands to get from the sale of his 5.3 percent stake to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.
"If it wasn't for Paris, no one would be talking about the Hilton name. It would just be a financial story," said Oppenheimer.

Celebrity Watch: The Unsinkable Paris Hilton Posted on Friday, July 06, 2007 (EST) Paris Hilton is no stranger to publicity. Everywhere she goes, everything she does, is fodder for the international press.

Paris Hilton leaves a singing lesson with a book titled 'Singing For The Stars' in Hollywood, LA. She had an hour and a half lesson with Rachel Riggs, daughter of the famous vocal coach, Seth Riggs, who is the author of the book Paris took away. 6 Jul 2007 (Sawf News) - Paris Hilton is no stranger to publicity. Everywhere she goes, everything she does, is fodder for the international press. And yet, we never seem to get bored of her. So much drama, so little time. Known as much for getting her glam on as she is for her now-trademark oversized glares, La Hilton likes to have her cake and eat it too. A fondness for the spotlight along with a wish to live her life, heiress-style.
It seems, however, that her time in the slammer has made her a little quieter, a little less. Paris. Whether its a phase that will pass or a brand new person remains to be seen. From her first outfit coming out of jail, a short-sleeved jacket with skinny pants and white shoes, to her recent navy blue sundress at the Malibu shindig, to this, a little striped number floating around LAshes gone conservative on us.
The only thing shes kept the same is the large glares, because hey, its still Paris and were still tracking her every well-heeled move. Its a far cry from the young woman who confessed on her reality show that she didnt wear underwear, the one who made the infamous sex tape and then sued to get it back. Whether shes dressing to reflect her changed personality, or just trying to breeze through the city on her errands, the statement surely works.
Paris, ten degrees cooler
Seen in this recent photograph, the Hilton girl wears a short kicky dress in uneven vertical stripes with large reflective shades, hair pulled back in a blue cap and carrying a white bag. Post-jail, it seems like shes less into flashing her last name and money than she is about being herself. Kudos on the stripes, they save the dress from being plain and yet dont overwhelm her tall figure. Somehow, we cant picture her dressed in this outfit and dancing on tables, as she has done in the past. Someone who had all the money in the world, then was deprived of it for a short time, now seems to understand the true meaning of freedom. Maybe having nothing to prove isnt such a bad thing.
The heiress to millions and former flame of Paris Latsis, Stavros Niarchos and a Backstreet Boy, Hilton seems to land on her pedicured feet one way or another. Probably the only ex-con we know that has two fragrances and a Teen Choice Award nomination, shes certainly one of the most unusual celebs of our Celebrity Watch. As if that wasnt enough, Paris has been after her fans to give her their vote in the hope that she wins. Dont know about the TCA, but youd surely win best-dressed in this! Viva la Paris! http://news.sawf.org/Fashion/39637.aspx
Longoria, Parker Wed in Royals' Church
By JENNY BARCHFIELD The Associated Press Saturday, July 7, 2007; 2:13 PM
PARIS -- The sun smiled on Tony Parker and Eva Longoria's wedding day, breaking through after days of gray Paris skies. Their VIP guests, though, were concealed by big black umbrellas.
Glamour and security went hand-in-hand as the NBA champion and star of "Desperate Housewives" exchanged vows Saturday in a church across from the Louvre Museum.

U.S. actress Eva Longoria, a star on the U.S. television series "Desperate Housewives," arrives at a Paris City Hall, Friday, July 6, 2007, for her civil wedding with NBA player Tony Parker. The religious wedding is expected to be celebrated on Saturday July 7, 2007, followed by a reception planned at a historic chateau outside Paris. The Roman Catholic ceremony at the Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois Church _ frequented by French royalty in centuries past _ was stage two in a weekend wedding extravaganza.
First, the mayor of Paris pronounced Parker and Longoria husband and wife in a civil ceremony Friday. Then a priest married them Saturday afternoon. Next up: an exclusive bash at a storied French chateau.
Stars of all stripes _ actors, athletes, musicians _ joined the couple for their nuptials.
Longoria's fellow "Housewives" garnered the most attention from several hundred mostly French fans outside the church, who booed bodyguards for blocking their view.
Teri Hatcher, in a silky blue gown, came with her 9-year-old daughter Emerson Rose. Felicity Huffman, in a beige dress with ruffled v-neck collar, brought husband William H. Macy. Nicolette Sheridan wore a strapless pink gown.
Marcia Cross, who stars in the series as Bree and recently gave birth to twins, was not expected to attend.
Sheryl Crow and the head coach for the San Antonio Spurs, Greg Popovich, were among guests who didn't stay concealed behind the huge black umbrellas bodyguards used to shield them from public view.
Police also erected 10-foot-high wooden panels in front of the church, and the bride and groom kept well out of sight.
After the guests and wedding party left in red buses and a black Rolls Royce, fans stormed the church, grabbing up the white lilies spread out across the large medieval hall.
The Rev. Dominique Schubert told The Associated Press that he formally married the 25-year-old Parker and 32-year-old Longoria in a full Catholic wedding ceremony. He gave no details.

Calling Paris? Student inherits Hilton's number

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Days after U.S. college student Shira Barlow got her new cell phone number, the party inquiries, birthday wishes and late-night calls started arriving.
Barlow had unwittingly inherited the old phone number of celebrity hotel heiress Paris Hilton -- and messages from well-wishers and foes alike are still flooding in five months later.
Barlow told the Los Angeles Times in a story published on Friday that the calls and text messages -- usually coming between about 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on weekends -- at first were mostly from people asking about cool Los Angeles nightclubs.
But in May they were replaced by condolences after the 26-year-old socialite was sentenced to jail for violating probation in a drunken-driving case.
"People were scared for her," the UCLA student told the newspaper.
Barlow said she has resisted the temptation to pose as Hilton to get herself and her friends on the guest lists of exclusive parties.
She also said she has no plans to switch the number because it has been more a source of amusement than a hassle.
She inherited it in February under a practice in which U.S. phone companies recycle old cell phone numbers after six months to meet increasing demand, the Times said.
The newspaper stumbled on the story after a reporter called the number, hoping to reach Hilton, and Barlow answered.
Hilton spent three weeks in a county jail near Los Angeles last month. Her incarceration ignited a worldwide media frenzy and debate about celebrity justice. by reuters.com
