NYC, Trump, Disney reward "Subway Superman" By Mark Porter Fri Jan 5, 9:49 AM ET NEW YORK (Reuters) - A New Yorker dubbed "Subway Superman" received the city's highest civic award on Thursday after pinning down a stricken stranger on subway tracks just enough to allow an oncoming train to run over the top of them. ADVERTISEMENT
Wesley Autrey, 50, jumped onto the subway tracks at a station in Manhattan's Harlem neighborhood on Tuesday to help Cameron Hollopeter, who had suffered a seizure and fallen. Autrey held down Hollopeter's convulsing body in the track bed as the train passed just centimeters above them. Both were uninjured, but Hollopeter, 20, remains in hospital undergoing tests to discover what caused his seizure. Autrey, whose knitted cap was brushed with grease and dirt from the train passing overhead, played down his daring act as he accepted the Bronze Medallion -- for exceptional citizenship and outstanding achievement -- from Mayor Michael Bloomberg. "You see somebody in distress, you help out," Autrey told a news conference, as he was flanked by his 4- and 6-year-old daughters, who had watched their father jump onto the subway tracks. "I was just in the right place at the right time." While Bloomberg called Autrey a "true hero" and the New York Post newspaper dubbed him the "Subway Superman," the construction worker -- who went to work as normal after the incident -- said the real heroes were U.S. troops in Iraq. Along with the civic award, Autrey was also given a year's worth of free rides on New York's subway and buses, then met with real-estate mogul Donald Trump, who gave him a $10,000 check, along with two other checks from undisclosed donors. The Walt Disney Co. gave Autrey and his family a one-week fully paid trip to the Disney World theme park in Orlando, Fla, and tickets to the Broadway smash hit musical "The Lion King." The New York Film Academy, where Hollopeter studies, said it had given Autrey $5,000 and offered scholarships to his daughters, while The New York Daily News reported Autrey had been offered a television show apartment make-over. Autrey -- whose boss didn't believe his excuse for being late to work until he saw on the Internet what Autrey had done -- is also scheduled to appear on both "The Late Show With David Letterman" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." "Good things happen when you do good," Autrey said. "What better way to start a new year than saving a life?" Autrey said he has visited Hollopeter in hospital and met the young man's father. Previous recipients of New York's Bronze Medallion include civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The last recipient was Housing Authority employee Felix Vasquez, who caught a baby thrown from a New York City burning building in 2005.
January 05, 2007 06:52 PM Eastern Time Buena Vista Music Group Dominates Nielsen SoundScan 2006 YTD Current Albums Chart with Three Records in the Top Ten High School Musical Soundtrack #1 Best-Selling Album of 2006 BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Buena Vista Music Group has achieved an unprecedented division best, topping the Nielsen SoundScan 2006 YTD Current Album Chart with the #1 and #2 best-selling records and finishing the year with a total of three albums in the chart's Top Ten. The YTD Current Album Chart for the week ending December 31, 2006 crowns the High School Musical soundtrack #1 (3.7 million units sold) and Rascal Flatts' Me and My Gang #2 (3.4 million units sold), with the Hannah Montana soundtrack securing the #8 position (1.9 million units sold) only 11 weeks after its release. Bob Cavallo, Buena Vista Music Group Chairman, said, "Obviously, we are very delighted with our recent success, especially since this is a challenging time for the record industry. We are fortunate that Disney Channel afforded us a platform to successfully launch High School Musical and Hannah Montana. And, of course, Rascal Flatts have continued their steady climb with the fourth multi-platinum album in a row." The year's undisputed phenomenon was Walt Disney Records' soundtrack to the hit Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical, which the R.I.A.A. has certified triple platinum. Released in January 2006, the High School Musical soundtrack broke multiple sales records on the Billboard charts. The Hot 100 chart included an unprecedented nine original songs from the soundtrack in one week, with six of those singles quickly certifying gold. That same record-breaking week the single "Breaking Free" catapulted from #86 to #4, making the largest jump in the 48-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. The song's #4 position also made it Walt Disney Records' highest-ranked Hot 100 song in the label's 50-year history. The gold single "Get'cha Head in the Game" also broke a 34-year-old Billboard record by soaring from #100 to #28 – the largest jump ever from the anchor position. In March 2006, High School Musical became the first television soundtrack in two decades to helm the Billboard Top 200. Rascal Flatts' fourth album, Me And My Gang, was released by Lyric Street Records in April and opened with 722,000 units sold first week, making it the highest debut of 2006. Me and My Gang quickly certified triple platinum for sales of more than three million units and is the second best selling album of the year across all genres. In 2006, Rascal Flatts achieved its first crossover #1 hit when the single "What Hurts The Most" topped both the country and AC radio charts. The award-winning country music superstars recently became the first group in history to be named both the #1 Billboard Top 200 Artist of the Year and the #1 Country Artist of the Year by Billboard Magazine. Walt Disney Records' soundtrack to the hit Disney Channel Original Series Hannah Montana became the music group's third album to top the charts in 2006 and was the first-ever TV soundtrack to enter Billboard's Top 200 chart at #1. The album held the pole position for 2 consecutive weeks and broke Billboard records by charting seven tracks on the Hot 100 Singles, the most by a single artist in one week in the history of the chart. Hannah Montana recently certified double platinum, earning the #8 spot on Nielsen SoundScan's 2006 YTD Current Album Chart only two months after its release. The Buena Vista Music Group encompasses all of the Walt Disney Studio's recorded music and music publishing operations, including Hollywood Records, Walt Disney Records, Lyric Street Records and Walt Disney Music Publishing.
What It Takes To Be A Successful Podcaster
It takes a focus on doing what traditional radio isn't doing today, providing meaningful content and interesting, well produced shows. It takes what traditional radio is GOOD at today and that is developing an audience. The problem with the audience of traditional radio is that it is transient, people are here today and gone five minutes from now, what you say while they are not listening is forever lost and the more they lose the less relevant you become. But online broadcasting and Podcasting changes all of that. So what if they miss five minutes, they pause your program and pick up right where they left off, they can even rewind and let their friends hear what you just said and they can do it at their leisure and in their privacy. The Best Information On The Internet About PodcastingRather than try and give you a complete overview of soup to nuts about how to do a podcast here, I'd like to point you to the very best resources on the net. There were less than 200 Podcasts available when I started collecting this information and a short nine months later there are over 7000. I believe they will easily exceed 1 million in the next six - eight months. Podcasts will spread much faster than blogs and rightly so, simply because people have more time to listen in their car, at their house, at work, to the things they find intensely interesting. I'm hoping that the information I provide you with here will make yours the next big hit. One of the things you'll want to do is to be sure that you have a link where people can play your podcast right at your website. This is one of the biggest mistakes people make today. They assume because they created a podcast that everyone wants to download it and listen to it, at this point, many still just want to be able to listen at your website and get a feel for what you do, make it easy. Audio Generator, http://tinyurl.com/4rnv6, is the best and easiest tool I've found for putting audio on your website or for sending audio via email. Whether or not you decide to do a full blown Podcast, this gives you the opportunity to host your own audio programming on your site with no increased hosting fees. All of the hosting is done on their server. This can potentially save you a lot of money. There are a few other tools you'll want, if you don't already have a website, register your domain name at www.godaddy.com, they have costs effective domain registration and hosting plans. You'll also need some basic and possibly more advanced audio equipment. The best source for quick easy packages or individual items that I've found is: http://tinyurl.com/4bpc7. At some point you may also want buyout or royalty free music that you can use to develop the professional sound of your show. Again, after looking around and trying a lot both as a Podcaster and radio professional, this is the best resource I've found: www.sounddogs.com. Here are the links you'll want to explore to get started: General Overview of Podcasting Linkshttp://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.03/curry.html http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.03/curry.html?pg=3 http://www.businessweek.com/technology/content/mar2005/tc2005037_3846_tc024.htm www.ipodder.org How To Create Your Own Podcastwww.ipodder.org/documentation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcast http://garage.docsearls.com/node/462 Best Podcasting Tools (Not all of these services are free, but they make life much easier)

This is the easiest and most full featured software, the next two links are less full featured shareware programs that are very inexpensive to license, but they are not nearly as easy to use. http://www.flexmusic.com - Free http://highcriteria.com - $12.00 www.podcasting-tools.com Where To Find Podcastswww.audioblog.com www.podcastingnews.com www.podcastalley.com www.podcastvalley.com Making money with your podcast is what we'll be discussing in future notes and I'll be podcasting some messages as well so that you can get the hang of how this all works and hear how a profitable podcast sounds. Keep this in mind though. The reason that podcasting will change the face of radio forever is that it allows people to get the content that they want, the way they want it, when they want it so that they can listen to it whenever and however often they want. Keeping that first simple idea in mind as you create your podcast will be the basis on which we build your profitable podcast. To your podcasting success! Dear
I've been involved in terrestrial radio since the early 1990's as voice over talent, on air talent, talk show host, and owner of an ad agency. I can say one thing with absolute certainty, Podcasting (done right) is going to forever change the face of radio, in my opinion Podcasting or delivering radio programming via the internet is much bigger than Satellite radio by far.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Since I first produced this course, I've had dozens of questions and I'd like to answer them all here, but I have a better idea. In addition I'm going to host a giant no cost teleseminar and then podcast it when it is done. The only people allowed on the call will be those who are on my list or who sign up to be on my list. I'll be doing the live seminar and Podcast in April. But, be surethat you read to the end of this email for a lot of information you'll want now. Be watchingyour email for more information. Here are just a few of the questions I'll be answering:
- How do I create a professional sounding radio show? - What equipment should I be using? - How do I use RSS2.0 with enclosures - How do I use my podcast to promote my brick and mortar business - How do I use my podcast to become famous - How do I make money with my podcast - How to I get people to know about my podcast - What software and services should I be using - What is the most important thing I should do to my website to incorporate every possible listener into the experience
As you can see there are just too many detailed questions to answer here, but I will answer them all on the teleseminar. Here is the other caveat, I can only have about 500 people on the call and my list is already much larger than that. So, when I send out the email it will be first come first served. I will not be sending out a bunch of inane emails like ahead of time, I'll likely send one or two and then a reminder shortly before the call. If you know anyone who should be on the call, get them to sign up for my list whether or not they can be on the call because that is the only way they'll get the private RSS feed with full documentation.
Fundamental beliefs about Podcasting
The technology is currently inexpensive or free and is likely to stay that way, at least the technology that allows you to find, store and playback individual Podcasts. The information around how to create Podcasts is also free, and it should stay free. What will inevitably cost money and rightfully so is specific information on how to monetize and profit from Podcasts. Much like Pirate radio, many stars will emerge from relative obscurity using this medium and have tremendous impact on society at large . . . and yes, many people will dip their toe in the water and do no more, never to be heard from again.
