Yesterday on SNY TV, the NY Mets had their number 2 starter Pedro Martinez pitching against the Florida Marlins who continued their winning ways against the Mets.  Everyone including Marlins-Mets fans had very high hopes that Pedro was going to have a good game.  Practically every person in the Marlins' ball park had on NY Mets attire, which made one felt as if the Mets were playing at Shea Stadium. Things didn't start off too well for the Mets and Pedro.  First he hit a Marlins' batsman (Hanley Ramirez) and allowed several home runs after that.  Before long, it was 4 nothing Marlins.  The Marlins won the game 5 to 4 in the tenth inning, when relief pitcher, Wize Gave up a gigantic home run to Robert Andino a minor league rookie, who was recently called up.  Obviously, Pedro's first start for the year was not going as planned, but things got really bad when he pulled up lame with a pulled hamstring.  This is what happens when it is approaching the retirement phase of a player’s career.  As a Mets fan, this harsh reality is hard to fathom but it is reality, nonetheless, and we are forced to accept it.  Therefore, whatever we get out of Pedro Martinez from now on is gravy.  He is definitely a fighter, but when the heart is willing and the body is weak, the man is nothing but a piece of wheat; how strong is that?  Not very strong!  It is sad, but it is the reality of sports and the human body; it fades away after time! The Mets only hope now is Johan Santana, who did very well the night before in beating the pesky Marlins.
