A Trick to Make Your PC Run Like New
By James Henry Johnson
New computers only work well because they have very few programs and potential problems. This basically means that new computers run so reliably and quickly because they don't have any sort of issues or errors that could slow them down, allowing them to run at their fastest all the time.
New systems are famed for running fast & smoothly, just as older systems are famed for running slower. This is because when computers get older, they build up a series of junk files and erroneous files, which takes your computer longer to do things. Think of the problem as like a book with its pages mixed up... if you wanted to read the book, you'd have to take longer to put the pages in order and read it. This is exactly what happens with older PCs, except the book is a series of 1,000's of files.
The problem with slow PCs is actually quite simple - it's all down to a part of your system called the 'registry', which is a big database of important files. The registry stores the information and personalization settings for your computer, allowing you to keep everything from your Internet bookmarks to login details stored and recalled whenever you like. This is one of the most important parts of your system, and is being used constantly by Windows. However, it's also causing your PC to run slow.
Unfortunately, the registry is actually responsible for 99% of slow Windows systems, because of a design flaw it has. Because it holds 100,000's of important files, Windows is constantly opening and reading hundreds of them to help it recall a number of different settings for your PC. This is okay, but because there are so many files open, it gets confused and ends up saving many of these important files in the wrong way. This causes Windows to make many registry files corrupt and damaged, making them unreadable. This makes Windows run very slowly as it tries to open and decode the files it needs.
